Geography Glaciation trip - Easdale Tarn - Year 12 - 27th Apr

Cracking day with a great group of year 12's studying Glaciation up the Easdale valley with Mrs Richards!

Looking at a classic example of a Roche Moutonee with striations on the slanting uphill side and plucking on the steep downhill side.
It is not an Erratic or a Drumlin, why?

Sour Milk Ghyll - a Rock Step formed by Extending and Compressing flow, Crevasses and Seracs

Talking about the formation of Easdale tarn or Corrie with its N , NE facing back wall.
Key words - rotational flow, accumulation, abrasion, plucking, nivation and frost shattering!

Looking back up Easdale - Truncated spur to the right!

Well done guys for working hard - especially the swimmers!

Kayaking - River Lune - Year 8 - Day 4 - 26th Apr

A smashing day, Kayaking on the River Lune at Halton on the 1st day back after a long Easter break.  It was much colder than of late with a cold, strong Easterly wind making paddling difficult.

The group did really well, and had four hours of paddling due to their super efficient start in the morning!

Everyone was smashing today, but Mark deserves a special mention for conquering his fear and Gaby for persevering so hard.  Well done!

Returning from the long journey to the motorway bridge!

Playing some silly games at the end!

See you all on Thursday for Climbing.
