24 students aged 12 to 17 and a handful of staff from MCHS walked 35 miles and an epic 10,000ft of ascent over 3 days in order to raise money for expedition equipment for the Schools Outdoor Education Department and the Parent Teacher Association. Funds raised are to be split equally between the two and are estimated to come in at a fantastic £2000.
The walk was organised by the Head of Outdoor Education Paul Aitken and Rachel Platt who planned the route to cover Mountains and valleys the school houses are named after, Coniston, Langdale, Scafell and Helvellyn.
In two separate groups the students endured blisters, unseasonably hot and humid conditions, achy legs and torrential rain and 45mph wind on the final day. Despite this they faced everything head on and were cheerful, supportive of one another and cracking company throughout. The students climbed Coniston Old Man, Scafell Pike and Helvellyn as well as all the peaks in between.
This achievement is not to be underestimated, there is many an accomplished mountaineer who would not consider covering the distance and the ground that this group of students did over three days!
Well done, once again to all the staff and students who took part!
